About Spomenik herojima sa Košara

The Spomenik herojima sa Košara is a public war memorial in Belgrade’s Savski Venac municipality, in a park on Ljutice Bogdana Street, near the Monument to National Hero Major Milan Tepić and University Hospital Center Dr Dragiša Mišović. The City of Belgrade says the memorial was unveiled in 2020 and designed by sculptor Miodrag “Miša” Rogan. Its composition contains three soldier sculptures representing different periods of Serbian history: a medieval Serbian knight, a soldier from the Balkan Wars and First World War, and a soldier of the Yugoslav Army. The figures carry shields rather than weapons, presenting the memorial’s stated theme as defence rather than attack. The monument commemorates the soldiers associated with the Battle of Košare, fought in 1999 around the Košare border outpost near Albania. The City of Belgrade reports that the names of 108 soldiers and volunteers who died there are inscribed on the monument. It is about three metres high and weighs approximately 800 kilograms.
