About İnciraltı Sea Museum

İnciraltı Sea Museum is a waterfront collection of former naval vessels at İnciraltı pier in Balçova, İzmir. The vessels opened to visitors on 1 July 2007, turning a working pier into a place where naval history can be encountered at full scale. The museum is distinctive because its principal exhibits are a frigate, a submarine and a fast attack craft, joined by a helicopter displayed above the frigate. The visit is therefore organised around real decks, hulls, compartments and equipment rather than cases of small objects. TCG EGE gives the site its largest presence, while TCG PİRİREİS offers a very different underwater interior and TCG KASIRGA adds the compact profile of a fast attack vessel.

What's inside

The collection includes TCG EGE frigate, TCG PİRİREİS submarine and TCG KASIRGA fast attack craft. TCG EGE is 134 metres long and weighs 4,200 tons, making its size immediately apparent from the pier and from the vessel’s own decks. TCG PİRİREİS is 87 metres long and 9 metres wide; its double hull is divided into seven compartments. TCG KASIRGA became part of the museum after being towed to İnciraltı pier on 16 March 2015. An AB 212-class helicopter, registration TCB 36, is displayed on TCG EGE’s helicopter platform. Together, the exhibits represent surface, underwater and airborne naval equipment in one compact maritime setting.

How long to spend

Allow around 60 to 90 minutes for a focused visit to İnciraltı Sea Museum. That gives time to see the three museum vessels, inspect the helicopter on TCG EGE and pause on the pier to understand the scale of the ships. Visitors who read displays carefully or spend longer inside TCG EGE and TCG PİRİREİS may need more time. The exhibits are not interchangeable: the frigate, submarine and fast attack craft each present a different arrangement of space and machinery. A shorter stop can cover the main exterior views, but the submarine’s length and seven-compartment layout reward a slower visit.

Season and crowds

On 2 September 2026, İnciraltı Sea Museum follows its published summer schedule, which runs from 22 April through 3 October. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, and it is closed on Mondays. The ticket office closes at 18:00. Arrive with enough time to enter before that closing point, especially if you want to move through all three vessels. A morning visit leaves the broadest margin for a careful tour and lets you experience the pier before the end of the operating day. The relevant seasonal schedule is the summer timetable published by the Turkish Museums service.

Tickets

The general adult admission price is 90 TRY per person. The official museum listing also records free admission for Turkish citizens aged over 65, foreign children aged 0–8, and Turkish citizen children aged 0–18. These are the recorded admission categories for this guide. The ticket office closes at 18:00 during the summer timetable, so the practical deadline is the published closing time rather than a later evening entrance. İnciraltı Sea Museum is a vessel-based visit, with the ticket leading into a collection spread across a frigate, submarine and fast attack craft. No other price or discount is recorded in the operator listing used here.

Getting there

The museum is at İnciraltı pier, İnciraltı, Başak Sokak, 35330 Balçova/İzmir. The pier is the useful destination landmark because the museum’s exhibits are naval vessels positioned on the waterfront. ESHOT bus 5 serves the Narlıdere–Üçkuyular İskele route, and ESHOT bus 551 serves the Fahrettin Altay–Narlıdere route; both provide access to the İnciraltı area. After leaving the bus, orient towards the pier and use the waterfront setting to identify the museum. The address is in Balçova rather than central İzmir, so allow time for the approach before the 18:00 ticket-office closing time.

What to watch out for

İnciraltı Sea Museum is not presented as a single-level indoor gallery. The visit moves between a pier and the interiors or decks of full-size naval vessels, so the physical character of the route changes from exhibit to exhibit. TCG PİRİREİS is a submarine with a narrow, compartmentalised interior, while TCG EGE and TCG KASIRGA have their own vessel layouts. Wear footwear suited to walking through maritime exhibits and take care in confined spaces. The official research supplied for this page does not verify a step-free access status, accessible toilets, pushchair access, drinking water or baby-changing facilities, so no such facilities are promised here.

Photography

Photograph İnciraltı Sea Museum as a sequence of contrasting forms. From the pier, begin with the 134-metre profile of TCG EGE, then compare it with the long, low shape of TCG PİRİREİS and the compact fast attack craft TCG KASIRGA. The AB 212 helicopter, marked TCB 36, adds a distinct object on TCG EGE’s helicopter platform. Inside the vessels, details of corridors, compartments and machinery show how differently each platform was arranged. Wide exterior views communicate scale; closer frames reveal the difference between frigate, submarine and fast attack craft. In confined areas, keep clear of other visitors and avoid obstructing movement while taking photographs.
