About Casa Rosada

Casa Rosada is Argentina's national government house and contains the president's office, facing Plaza de Mayo at the centre of Buenos Aires' civic landscape. The official city tourism service identifies the site with national government and recalls the balcony addresses made by Juan and Eva Perón in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The present palace occupies ground used for political authority since the colonial period. An early fort stood here after the city's 1580 foundation, and the site later held a customs house before returning to use as the seat of government in 1862.
