Seoul Airport Transfers: ICN and GMP

Check the airport code before choosing a route. Incheon International Airport (ICN) has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 west of Seoul; Gimpo International Airport (GMP) is inside Seoul and uses different city connections. A Terminal 1 timetable should not be treated as a Terminal 2 departure. The official Incheon guidance says the actual terminal can differ because of codeshares or operational changes, so confirm it on the e-ticket or live flight search. From ICN, the AREX all-stop and express trains solve different journeys. The all-stop train serves Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University, Gongdeok and Seoul Station. It is often useful for Hongdae or a transfer before Seoul Station. The express runs nonstop to Seoul Station; choose it for that endpoint, not simply because its name sounds faster. Airport limousine buses are address-led. Route 6001 links both ICN terminals with Sinyongsan, Seoul Station, Myeongdong and Dongdaemun-area stops; other routes serve different corridors. Match the stop and direction to the accommodation, then read that route's current timetable. A direct bus can reduce luggage transfers, but traffic and weather affect it. For GMP, the airport operator identifies Subway Lines 5 and 9, AREX and the Gimpo Gold line at Gimpo Airport Station. AREX publishes an express journey of 43 minutes between Incheon Terminal 1 and Seoul Station, or 51 minutes for Terminal 2. These are scheduled station-to-station times. Add immigration, baggage collection, the walk to the platform, waiting for departure and the onward city connection. For an all-stop journey, select the actual terminal and destination station in the current timetable: intermediate stops and the chosen service affect the arrival time. The all-stop train may produce the shorter complete trip when Hongik University, Gongdeok or Digital Media City is closer to the destination. The nonstop train can simplify a Seoul Station connection even when its higher fare saves little door-to-door time. Compare the correct terminal and useful exit station, then add a transfer margin. A scheduled 43-minute ride is not a 43-minute promise from aircraft door to hotel.

Seoul's official overview describes limousine journeys as approximately 60–80 minutes, varying by route, destination and traffic. Route 6001 publishes stop times and warns that operation can change with road, traffic and weather conditions. Use those entries to find a viable departure, not to guarantee an arrival minute. A direct bus may avoid luggage transfers; rail is easier to estimate when roads are uncertain. The AREX adult all-stop fare between Seoul Station and Incheon Airport is KRW 4,750 for Terminal 1 or KRW 5,350 for Terminal 2 when paying with a prepaid or postpaid transport card. A single-use card adds KRW 100 to the fare and requires a refundable KRW 500 deposit, returned at the destination station. Route 6001 lists KRW 17,000 for adults and KRW 12,000 for children aged 6–12. Keep that age band and fare attached to route 6001. The operator distinguishes direction: downtown passengers buy at the Incheon Airport booth, while airport-bound passengers can pay the driver with cash or T-money. Downtown-bound passengers at Terminal 2 must pre-purchase from the counter or vending machine from 5 March 2026. For official international taxis, Seoul publishes fixed ICN section fares by destination district: KRW 70,000–95,000 for a sedan and KRW 100,000–140,000 for an SUV, van or deluxe vehicle across zones A–E. These are international-taxi fares, not a quote for every taxi. International passengers using the metered scheme face a 20% surcharge; applicable tolls and additions are separate. Use the current AREX timetable for the travel date, terminal and direction. Express departures are not evenly spaced, so a universal 20–40-minute interval is not a reliable planning rule. Toward Seoul, Terminal 2 is served before Terminal 1; the departure shown for one terminal is not the boarding time at the other. Check the last usable departure as well as the journey time. For an all-stop service, check the exact boarding and exit stations instead of applying the express schedule. Airport transfers also need time to reach the platform after leaving the arrivals hall. Airport buses publish route-level departures, not one Seoul frequency. Route 6001 has separate Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 entries and individual times. Operation can change with road, traffic and weather conditions. Select the city stop, then verify whether the row is toward downtown or the airport. GMP requires its own timetable. Gimpo Airport Station connects with Lines 5 and 9, AREX and the Gimpo Gold line, but the route page gives no universal operating window. The free Gimpo terminal shuttle is internal, not a ride into central Seoul: passenger-terminal service is listed from 06:00 to 23:00, with intervals and cargo-building routing varying by period. A late ICN arrival needs a named service, not an assumption that daytime transport continues all night. Incheon Airport publishes routes N6000 toward Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, N6002 toward Cheongnyangni, N6701 toward Dongdaemun Design Plaza and N6703 toward Gwangnaru. Each has limited terminal departures and specific city stops. Match the district and terminal, then verify the current page after baggage claim. If no night route fits, compare an official-rank taxi with waiting for the first suitable rail or bus. State the district before accepting an international-taxi section fare, and confirm whether it is fixed or metered and which tolls or surcharges apply. For the return, work backwards from the airline deadline and terminal. Seoul Station city check-in is not attached to every rail ticket. Incheon Airport limits it to AREX express customers on eligible same-day international departures; airlines vary. Check-in closes three hours before Terminal 1 flights and three hours twenty minutes before Terminal 2 flights. The reviewed official pages give no universal Sunday exception for every AREX, bus or GMP connection. Check the dated Sunday or holiday timetable and protect the flight deadline against reduced frequency, traffic and the final terminal transfer. A scheduled departure does not guarantee that airline check-in will wait.
