Barcelona Airport Transfer Guide

Barcelona-El Prat's main public routes do not serve the same terminal or city interchange. Aerobus A1 links Terminal 1 with Plaça Espanya, Gran Via-Borrell, Plaça Universitat and Plaça Catalunya. A2 serves Terminal 2B and 2C before using the same central corridor. This is the simplest public option for accommodation near those stops. Check the flight terminal before joining a queue. Metro L9 Sud serves both Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2. It runs through Fira and connects with L10 Sud at Can Tries | Gornal, L1 and L10 Sud at Torrassa, L5 and L10 Sud at Collblanc, and L3 at Zona Universitària. R2 Nord runs from the Aeroport station at Terminal 2 to Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gràcia. A Terminal 1 arrival needs Aena's free inter-terminal shuttle first. The shuttle runs around the clock, every day, and Aena schedules 10 minutes from T1 to T2B/C; add waiting and station access. Official black-and-yellow taxis wait outside arrivals and are the no-change fallback. No fixed taxi fare is asserted here. TMB publishes 32 minutes for L9 Sud from the airport to Barcelona, with trains every seven minutes. That is not a 32-minute promise to Plaça Catalunya, the Gothic Quarter or a hotel. Add the wait, a transfer at Torrassa, Collblanc or Zona Universitària, and the final walk. Aerobus describes the full airport-central Barcelona run as about 35 minutes. Road conditions, boarding and the chosen central stop change the actual time, so this is an estimate rather than a guarantee. A1 is for T1; A2 is for T2. The September 2026 Rodalies timetable shows R2 Nord from Aeroport through El Prat, Bellvitge | Gornal, Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gràcia. Recurring airport services take about 20 scheduled minutes to Sants and 27 to Passeig de Gràcia. Check live service before a tight onward train. A T1 passenger must also budget Aena's shuttle: about 10 scheduled minutes to T2B/C plus a five-to-ten-minute wait depending on the time. Aerobus lists €7.75 one way and €13.30 return. Service tickets are valid for 90 days from purchase, and the return remains valid for another 90 days from the outward journey. Children under four travel free. Eligible single-parent and large-family discounts apply only to one-way tickets bought through the driver or stop staff and require current documentation. Aerobus is outside Barcelona's integrated fare system. A T-casual, T-usual, T-mobilitat product or T-dia does not pay for it. The €10.15 Metro/Bus + Aerobus product combines one Aerobus trip with one TMB validation before or after it, but that TMB validation cannot be redeemed at Aeroport T1 or T2 metro stations. TMB's 2026 Airport Ticket costs €5.90 for a metro journey between Aeroport T1 or T2 and the rest of the metro network. It is non-integrated and single-person, so it does not provide a bus transfer after leaving the metro. The ordinary metro single ticket, T-casual and T-grup are invalid at airport stations. Hola Barcelona instead includes one outward and one return airport metro journey within its validity; choose it only if its wider city coverage fits the trip. R2 Nord uses metropolitan rail fares, not the L9 Airport Ticket. ATM's 2026 table lists a one-zone Rodalies single at €2.90; its metropolitan rule applies one-zone pricing to trips between municipalities inside the Barcelona metropolitan area. Aerobus runs A1 and A2 for 24 hours every day, including public holidays. From T1, A1 is scheduled every 10 minutes from 05:35 to 07:15, five minutes from 07:15 to 22:30, 10 minutes from 22:30 to 01:05, and 20 minutes from 01:05 to 05:35. From T2, A2 runs every 10 minutes from 05:35 to 23:00 and every 20 minutes overnight. Use the operator's real-time departures because traffic and boarding affect actual service. L9 Sud is scheduled every seven minutes. Metro opens at 05:00 and ends at midnight Monday-Thursday and Sunday, at 02:00 Friday, and runs continuously from Saturday morning through Sunday night. TMB says the closing time is the last departure from each line terminal, not a guaranteed connection at every station. Aerobus is the clearest documented overnight public route: A1 and A2 operate 24 hours every day, including Sundays and public holidays, with 20-minute intervals in their published overnight bands. Metro runs continuously on Saturday night but ends at midnight on Sunday. Monday-Thursday also ends at midnight; Friday ends at 02:00. The closing time is the last departure from the line terminal, not a promise that a late arrival can complete every interchange. Check live routing when baggage delivery puts the trip near the limit. R2 Nord runs on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The timetable dated 1 September 2026 shows half-hourly airport departures through most of the day and a scheduled 23:38 departure from Aeroport in the weekend-and-holiday table. Aena also lists N17 and N18 night buses to Plaça Catalunya: N17 serves T1, while N18 serves T1 and calls at T2 toward Barcelona.
