About Disney's Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Kingdom is a Walt Disney World theme park built around wildlife, conservation and themed adventure. The Tree of Life on Discovery Island is its central icon, carrying more than 300 carved animals. The park combines live-animal habitats and care facilities with rides, stage shows, character experiences, restaurants and constructed environments. Its official programme ranges from Kilimanjaro Safaris and walking animal trails to Pandora's Avatar attractions and Expedition Everest. Animal Kingdom is therefore not a conventional zoo or a ride-only park: the visit depends on coordinating wildlife, entertainment and timed attraction operations.

What's inside

The park's principal areas include Discovery Island, Pandora, Africa and Asia. Pandora contains Avatar Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey. Africa combines Kilimanjaro Safaris, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, Festival of the Lion King and Conservation Station, reached by the Wildlife Express Train. Asia includes Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids and Maharajah Jungle Trek, where tigers and more than 50 bird species may be seen. Discovery Island holds the Tree of Life, character meetings and dining. Extra-charge wildlife experiences such as Wild Africa Trek and Caring for Giants sit outside ordinary attraction admission arrangements.

How long to spend

A single operator-recommended visit duration for Disney's Animal Kingdom is Not recorded. Park time varies with ride queues, stage schedules, animal activity, dining and the shorter operating hours of individual trails or Conservation Station. A route focused on Kilimanjaro Safaris and wildlife walks is different from one prioritising Pandora and Expedition Everest. The official park calendar and attraction map should be checked together because the park can remain open after some animal experiences close. Select priority attractions and shows before arrival rather than treating the editorial stop duration as a complete park-day estimate.

Season and crowds

Disney's Animal Kingdom does not publish one permanent daily schedule; operating hours, early entry and extended evening access are shown by date on the official calendar. Individual trails, shows, character appearances and animal-care experiences can use shorter hours than the park. Disney also states that animal experiences may change without notice. Check the chosen date immediately before visiting and place wildlife trails or Conservation Station before their own closing times. Weather, seasonal crowd forecasts and a single officially preferred month are Not recorded on the park page, so they are not inferred here.

Tickets

Disney's Animal Kingdom requires Walt Disney World theme-park admission for the selected date or ticket entitlement. Ticket prices vary by date and product, and a current US-dollar amount paired with a source-dated euro conversion is Not recorded here. The operator lists separate bookable experiences, including Wild Africa Trek, Caring for Giants, Savor the Savanna and Up Close with Rhinos, which should not be assumed to be included in standard park admission. Disney states that tickets are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and non-refundable, and separately ticketed events require their own admission.

Getting there

Disney's Animal Kingdom is within Walt Disney World Resort, west of central Orlando. Exact operator directions, hotel-transfer times and a single best transport mode are Not recorded on the park destination page because arrival depends on the visitor's resort, parking entitlement and chosen Disney transport. Guests with valid disability parking permits can use designated parking areas, and Disney publishes accessible resort-transport information separately. Route specifically to Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, not Animal Kingdom Lodge. Check the official app or resort transport information on the visit date and allow for security screening before the entrance gates.

What to watch out for

All bags and clothing may be screened. Bags, coolers or backpacks larger than 61 by 38 by 46 centimetres are prohibited, as are selfie sticks, folding chairs, drones and oversized tripods. Balloons and plastic straws are specifically prohibited at Animal Kingdom. Guests under 14 need an accompanying guest aged 14 or older to enter, and children under seven require an older companion on attractions. Proper shirts, shoes and family-appropriate attire are required. Accessibility and sensory effects vary by attraction, so consult the current guide rather than applying one ride's access rules across the park.

Photography

Personal visitor photography is subject to Walt Disney World property rules and each attraction's instructions. Unapproved commercial photography, filming or recording is prohibited. Selfie sticks and handheld extension poles are not allowed, while tripods or monopods must fit inside a standard backpack and remain below 182 centimetres when extended. Drones are prohibited. Those general rules do not guarantee photography during every ride, show, animal encounter or backstage-care view. Follow cast-member directions, avoid flash or equipment that disturbs animals or guests, and arrange professional or commercial work through Disney before arrival.
