Its remains belong to Thyateira, the ancient city whose name survives in Akhisar’s historical identity. The site is distinctive because ancient masonry is encountered within the modern town, directly opposite Akhisar Museum, rather than beyond the settled area. That setting makes the visit a close study of how Roman urban remains persist alongside contemporary streets. Tepe Mezarı also connects Akhisar with early Christian history: Thyateira is associated with one of the seven churches of the early Christian period in the Aegean region.
