Big Benについて
Big Ben is the popular name for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. The name is frequently extended to refer also to the clock and the clock tower. The tower was designed by Augustus Pugin in a Gothic Revival style and completed in 1859. It stands at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament building. The Elizabeth Tower, as it was renamed in 2012, is one of London's most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site component.

The tower contains a four-faced clock mechanism and the Great Bell weighing approximately thirteen and a half tons. Visitors cannot access the interior without arranging tours through parliamentary channels. The clock mechanism includes a pendulum and weights descending through the tower height. The Ayrton Light at the top indicates when Parliament is sitting. The tower structure houses five bells total, with four quarter bells ringing the Westminster Quarters. Interior access is restricted and not available to casual visitors approaching on site.

見学時間の目安
Viewing the tower exterior from Parliament Square or Westminster Bridge requires no fixed time commitment. Most visitors allocate fifteen to thirty minutes for photography and observation from surrounding vantage points. Those fortunate enough to secure interior tours through parliamentary arrangements should anticipate approximately ninety minutes for the full experience including security screening and climbing the three hundred and thirty-four steps to the belfry. The surrounding Westminster area deserves additional exploration, with Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and the Thames riverside walk all within immediate proximity.

写真
The tower photographs effectively from multiple angles throughout surrounding streets and bridges. Westminster Bridge offers classic symmetrical compositions with the Houses of Parliament. Parliament Square provides closer perspectives though street furniture and crowds complicate clean shots. The south bank of the Thames between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge yields panoramic skyline inclusion. Evening blue hour and night illumination produce dramatic results. Wide-angle lenses accommodate close quarters. Tripod use in busy pedestrian areas requires courtesy and awareness. The clock faces serve as compelling detail subjects.
