Hacı Hüseyin, a grain merchant, built it in 1652, giving the building a direct link to the commercial life of the historic Kemeraltı quarter. Its alternate name, Başdurak (Hacı Hüseyin) Mosque, identifies both the place and its founder. This is a living religious building within the bazaar, not a detached museum, so worship shapes the visitor experience as much as the architecture.
