Pillar of Shame was an eight-metre memorial sculpture by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, created as part of a series confronting major abuses of humanity. The Hong Kong work showed more than fifty distorted human figures compressed into a vertical column. It was unveiled during the 4 June 1997 candlelight commemoration in Victoria Park and subsequently became closely associated with public remembrance of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown in Hong Kong.
