Juliopolis is an archaeological site in the Gülşehri area of Çayırhan, within Nallıhan district in Ankara Province. Set beside Sarıyar Dam, it combines an ancient settlement with a necropolis on limestone rock along the reservoir’s northern shore. Surviving evidence belongs to Roman and Byzantine phases, while Juliopolis began to lose importance from the 11th century AD. This is a protected archaeological landscape rather than a conventional museum with a guaranteed visitor circuit. Some remains can be seen partially from the northeastern shores, but access is limited by excavation, conservation, wayfinding and security conditions. Its value lies in the relationship between settlement history, funerary archaeology, geology and the reservoir setting.

行き方

Juliopolis is approximately 122 kilometres northwest of Ankara, in the Gülşehri area of Çayırhan town, and about 25 kilometres from Nallıhan. From Ankara, Nallıhan Birlik buses leave from Akköprü Varlık Mahallesi. EGO route 677 runs from Ulus 19 Mayıs Stadium toward Nallıhan. From Esenboğa Airport, EGO route 442 can take you to the city centre; continue to Akköprü and transfer to Nallıhan Birlik. These services reach the wider area, but local access remains subject to restricted arrangements.
