The Monastery of Afkule is a remote religious ruin above Kayaköy in Fethiye district, reached through woodland rather than by a formal museum entrance. Its surviving structures are described as 16th- and 17th-century remains built over an earlier rock-cut religious site. At approximately 400 metres above sea level, Afkule is defined by the meeting of carved rock, later masonry, steep terrain and a long approach. The setting is part of the experience: this is an exposed historic place in the landscape, where the relationship between the ruins and the surrounding hills matters as much as the surviving fabric. It is in Kayaköy, in Fethiye district of Muğla, on the Kayaköy–Gemiler Bay route.

From Fethiye, follow the Fethiye–Hisarönü–Kayaköy road towards Gemiler Bay. Leave the main road westward at the Afkule turn-off, then continue on foot for about 3 km along the forest trail. The Fethiye–Kayaköy dolmuş is the named public-transport connection to Kayaköy; the final approach to the monastery is on foot. Think of the route in two stages: first reach the Kayaköy road and turn-off, then complete the trail without expecting a vehicle to deliver you to the ruins. Comfortable walking shoes, daylight and enough time for the return are important for this approach.
