Saint Polycarp Church is a Roman Catholic church in Akdeniz Mahallesi, in İzmir’s Konak district. It is dedicated to Polycarp, the bishop of Smyrna who lived between AD 69 and 155, linking modern İzmir with one of its earliest Christian figures. The present building dates from 1625, when it was built with permission from Sultan Süleyman. Its layered history reflects the changing communities and authorities of İzmir, while its dedication preserves the memory of the ancient city of Smyrna.
