Asklepion is Pergamon’s ancient healing sanctuary, founded in the 4th century BC for Asklepios, the god associated with medicine. Its identity comes from the way a sacred precinct organised healing, movement and public experience together. The site is linked with the Pergamene physician Galen, but it is not simply a memorial to one doctor. The covered approach, treatment-related spaces, water and theatre form a connected landscape. Walking through Asklepion means reading an institution in its setting: religion, medical practice and architecture overlap across the remains.
