Bezirksmuseum Leopoldstadt documents the history and cultural life of Vienna’s second district in the district office at Karmelitergasse 9. Its displays trace Leopoldstadt’s relationship with the Danube, bridges, shipping, the Nordbahnhof, the Ottoman sieges, the Augarten and the 1873 Vienna World’s Fair. Named objects include a two-metre Giant Ferris Wheel model made from burnt matches, a door from a Nazi-era collective apartment, memorial stones for expelled and murdered residents, and material on the district’s Jewish history.
The museum has been closed for a general renovation since 1 July 2026. The operator says reopening is expected in 2029, not confirmed, and lists no public visiting hours while the closure continues. The operator lists U2 Taborstraße, tram 2 and bus 5A at Karmeliterplatz for the site. It also describes the entrance as a short flight of stairs to the right of the district-office main entrance; no step-free alternative is published, so none is claimed here.
