Armenische Kirche is the St. Hripsime Armenian Apostolic Church in Vienna’s Landstraße district. It is the centre of the Armenian Apostolic Church community in Austria and also serves the Central European and Scandinavian patriarchal delegation. The church stands at Kolonitzgasse 11, in the courtyard of the community’s property. The present building was commissioned after the community acquired the site in 1964. Architect Eduard Sarabian prepared the plans in Armenian architectural forms, while Viennese architect Walter Dürschmied supervised the project. The foundation stone was laid on 28 June 1964, and Catholicos Vazken I consecrated St. Hripsime on 21 April 1968. The church is named after Hripsime, the Armenian saint and the baptismal name of donor Rose Tricky. The Austrian Armenian Apostolic community received official recognition as a religious community in 1972. The site is also connected with Armenian community life in Vienna through the Hovhannes Shiraz Saturday school and cultural associations. It is a functioning place of worship, so visitors should check access arrangements before seeking an interior visit.
